Pirates Acquire Yu Chang from Guardians

1 Min Read

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially acquired veteran infielder Yu Change from the Cleveland Guardians for cash.

Chang, 26, was designated for assignment last week and has played in just four games for the Guardians this season, striking out seven times in only 10 at bats. Chang also missed time due to being placed on the COVID-19 list.

Chang was once considered a promising prospect in the Cleveland organization, and finished the 2021 season batting  .228 with nine homers and 39 RBIs in 89 games for the Guardians, capped off by a strong finish where he belted 7 homers and 25 RBIs during the final three months of the season.

Chang was lined up to be the Guardians’ utility man this season, but a strong spring training from Owen Miller dashed those hopes.
