Former New York Jets quarterback and current analyst Boomer Esiason is backing off on his harsh criticism of Jets tackle Mekhi Becton, who he believes could be cut by the team because of Becton’s shape.

Esiason made the initial comments last week during a segment on the “Boomer and Gio” morning show on WFAN, and has now double down.

“How many hot dogs and pizzas was he eating? How much fried food is he eating?” Esiason asked, during the show. “The guy standing on that podium (speaking with media during Jets minicamp) is unhealthy, and anyone should want him to grow up. Somebody has to wake him up to do that, and I don’t know if the Jets trust him. I’m just being real about it.”

Esiason claims that Becton, who has already been labeled as a bust, weighed in at 395 pounds when he reported to minicamp last week.

Becton made headlines by fighting back against claims of being a bust and criticism over his weight, saying; “I’m satisfied where I’m at.”

Time will tell if the Jets are aligned with Becton’s thinking.
