Kansas City Royals catcher Savaldor Perez is slated to undergo surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb and has been placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Tuesday, according to ESPN.
Perez is currently batting a career-low .211 with a Royals team-high 11 home runs, and has missed nine games earlier this season with a left thumb sprain, but was able to return to the field in late May.
Perez is coming off a red-hot 2021 campaign in which he tied for the major league lead with 48 homers and drove in 121 runs.
