Mike McDaniel Talks Decision to Keep Three Quarterbacks

2 Min Read

The Miami Dolphins finalized their roster on Tuesday, bringing it down tot he 53-man limit and also making the final decision to keep three quarterbacks on the roster, and head coach Mike McDaniel talked about that decision, at length.

While the status of Tua Tagovailoa as the Dolphins’ starter was never in question, nor was the backup role for veteran Teddy Bridgewater, the status of Skylar Thompson certainly became a topic of conversation given his exceptional play during the preseason.

Thompson ended up making the final roster.

“He played very well” McDaniel said, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. “Again, another guy that comes in, he just works every day, won over his teammates through his work ethic, and he went out and balled. Another one where we got calls again, people asking what we were going to do and they’re all saying, ‘You know, you guys would be stupid to let him go.’ And there was no thought about us doing that. We’re not in the business of being stupid.”

The Dolphins drafted Skylar Thompson with their seventh round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Kansas State after Thompson’s impressive play in Big 12 action.
