The Tennessee Titans ended up being the team that former All-Pro free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins ultimately decided to sign with as a free agent following his release from the Arizona Cardinals.
Hopkins, 31, had also drawn interest from teams such as the New England Patriots, but chose the Titans who signed the veteran receiver to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $15 million in the first year, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.
Fans, as well as sports news journalists, have been following Hopkins’ free agent journey and some were surprised that he settled on the Titans, who will give Hopkins a base salary of $12 million in the first year and could reach up to $15 million with incentives once the contract is completed over the next few days.
“I always loved having haters and doubters but I appreciate it even more now. Titan up!!” Hopkins tweeted. Hopkins also posted a photo of himself with Titans superstar running back Derrick Henry on Instagram on Sunday night prior to defending his choice to sign with Tennessee.
The Cardinals released Hopkins on May 26th and there are questions if Hopkins can return to his All-Pro form following a disappointing run with the Cardinals.
