Yankees’ Josh Donaldson Could Miss Season With High-Grade Calf Strain

1 Min Read

The New York Yankees could be without veteran third baseman Josh Donaldson for the remainder of the season after an MRI revealed a high-grade strain to the slugger’ right calf, and could be considered a tear.

The 37-year old Donaldson, who was injured earlier in the season, said the latest injury, evaluated by two doctors, was diagnosed as at least a Grade 2-plus right calf strain, and a possible Grade 3 strain, according to ESPN.

Donaldson is hitting .142 with 15 RBIs with 10 of his 15 hits being homers.

Donaldson has been a brutal disappointment since joining the Yankees via a trade with the Minnesota Twins back in March 2022 and has been the ire of Yankee fans after his poor play at the plate, despite being stellar defensively at the hot corner.

Donaldson as a $21 million salary in the final season of a $92 million, four-year contract he signed with Minnesota, which includes a $24 million mutual option for 2024 with a $6 million buyout if declined by the team.
