The Los Angeles Angels must feel like the world is collapsing around them as they received some devastating news regarding the injuries to their two franchise superstars in Shohei Ohtani and slugger Mike Trout.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Ohtani, who left the game against the Cincinnati Reds, has been diagnosed with a UCL tear and at this time it is unclear if he will require surgery but he will not pitch for the remainder of the season.

Ohtani underwent Tommy John surgery back in 2018 but he continues to experience elbow issues.

In regards to Trout, the veteran slugger will be heading back to the injured list, according to Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times.

“Mike Trout is going back on the IL. Shohei Ohtani has a tear in his arm and he will not pitch the rest of the year” Valenzuela reported. “They are still searching for a second opinion on Ohtani. It’s a UCL tear for Ohtani.”

The Angels slim playoff hopes have now become slimmer. With a record of 61-67 on the seasons thus far the Angels will head to Queens to take on the New York Mets in a three-game series on the road.
