Mavericks Waive JaVale McGee

1 Min Read

The Dallas Mavericks have waived veteran center JaVale McGee on Tuesday close to a year after signing him during free agency to a three-year contract with plans for him to start, according to the Associated Press.

McGee, 35, started seven of the first nine games for Dallas but eventually fell out of the rotation about a month into the season and would play sparingly throughout the remained of the season, a season that saw the Mavericks miss the playoffs.

Dallas missing postseason play came a year after reaching the Western Conference finals and despite a midseason trade with the Brooklyn Nets that landed them superstar guard Kyrie Irving to pair with Mavericks franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic.

McGee averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 42 games last season for Dallas and has career averages of 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds.
