Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Goal Line Slide Makes Massive Shift at Sportsbooks

2 Min Read

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not have had a typical game during the Chiefs’ narrow victory over the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football, but Mahomes made quite the impact at the sportsbooks.

According to ESPN’s David Purdum, the Chiefs closed as 8-point favorites over the Jets and received overwhelming support from the betting public at sportsbooks as just an hour before kickoff, 91% of the bets and 84% of the money wagered on the game’s point spread were on Kansas City at Caesars Sportsbook with both BetMGM and DraftKings also reporting some heavy betting action on the Chiefs.

With a Mahomes touchdown, and the extra point, the Chiefs would have gone up 10 which would have been enough to cover the spread with less than 2 minutes to play but Mahomes instead opted to give himself up, allowing the Chiefs to kneel, run out the final seconds of the victory.

Caesars reported taking a $350,000 bet and a $240,556 bet on the Jets +8.5 on Sunday — and still had lopsided action on the Chiefs.

“The sharp money came in on the Jets, but we’re still rooting for them,” Adam Pullen, assistant director of Caesars Sportsbook, said while pointing out that the Chiefs covering the spread would’ve resulted in the best Sunday of the season so far for the betting public, however Mahomes’ play prevented it from happening.
