The San Francisco Giants have officially placed veteran first baseman Justin Smoak on unconditional release waivers, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jessica Kleinschmidt.

Smoak was initially designated for assignment back on Monday.

Smoak only made 6 plate appearances for the Giants this season, and also spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers, who ultimately cut him loose.
