The Philadelphia 76ers and superstar big man Joel Embiid are finalizing a four-year supermax contract extension for $196 million, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
Embiid was set to make $65 million over the final two years of his current contract, and with the new extension he will now be under contract with the 76ers through the 2026-2027 season for a grand total of $261 million.
Embiid, 27, who represented himself in the negotiations, became eligible for a supermax extension this summer. His new deal is fully guaranteed and includes a player option for the final year of the contract, however it does not include the same provisions protecting the Sixers in case of catastrophic injury to Embiid’s lower back or feet that his prior deal did.
Embiid’s contract extension will officially begin in 2023-24 and is based off a projected $124.95 million salary cap for that season.
